Young tennis Ace, Shola Adenekan a Year 5 pupil at St Peter & St Paul School, Chesterfield has achieved a UK Top 10 ranking from the prestigious Lawn Tennis Association after recent winning performances.
Nine-year-old Shola competed twice over the Christmas holidays winning a Grade 4 tournament in Derby and then a Regional Grade 3 tournament in Bolton.
Shola’s Mum said: “After a couple of fantastic performances, the LTA have updated the rankings and for the Girls Under 10s National UK rankings and Shola is number 6.
She is very happy and we are all very proud of her as psychologically the final hurdle of winning events has been reached. Shola and her Dad have worked really hard on her fitness and nutrition and it showed in her match performance. It’s such a shame we’re now without tennis for a while but we can’t wait for it return and for her Grandparents to be able to watch her play.”
Head of Girls’ Sport for St Peter & St Paul School, Mrs Alison Austin said, “The whole school community is incredibly proud of Shola, she works hard and is a role model for all our children. Her UK ranking is a reflection of her determination, energy and focus and the amazing support of her family.
As a school we have a strong tradition of competitive sport at a junior level and we have a strong core of very talented young sportspeople who we are delighted to support with targeted fitness training and advice, collaboration with their coaches and academies and the provision of academic support to enable their training commitments.”
