Modern Foreign Languages
At St Peter & St Paul School, we study two of the Latin languages; Spanish and French, exceeding the requirements of the National Curriculum. Both languages are taught by a highly qualified linguist.
The benefits of learning another language are clear:
- It boosts creativity
- It forms the foundations to learn other languages
- Builds confidence
- Cultural Understanding
- Problem solving.
All lessons are designed to develop a passion and enthusiasm for learning languages and appreciating other cultures.
In Reception, Spanish is taught weekly, focusing on speaking and listening skills, taught via songs , rhymes, actions and games.
Children in Years 1 and 2 study Spanish and begin to develop their Spanish written skills.
From Year 3, children start to learn French in addition to Spanish and continue to develop their reading, writing and translation skills.
