Music
Taught by specialists, music forms an intrinsic part of life at SPSP. It focuses on the practical aspects of the subject and provides performance opportunities for children of all ages. The transferable skills acquired through musical training serve to enhance a child’s education, promoting confidence, strong organisational skills and a life-long relationship with music.
The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) (2020) recognised that our children 'show a real love of singing and a keenness to improve… they work hard to perfect complicated pieces, responding positively to teaching that is clearly articulated.'
Currently over 50% of our pupils learn at least one musical instrument. Individual lessons are offered on a variety of instruments, as well as singing. The school has an excellent record of preparing children for ABRSM examinations and our Year 6 children are regularly awarded Music Scholarships to their chosen senior schools.
Musical & Drama Performances
All children at SPSP take part in a range of productions each year. All classes deliver Parents’ Assemblies on a chosen themes. In addition, the children develop a love of acting, starting with ‘The Nativity’ in Reception, followed by a variety of plays and musicals throughout their school life.
The productions take place on our own fully lit stage and create magical memories for parents, grandparents and children alike. The ISI recognised the strength this approach gives our children and noted that 'from Reception onwards, every pupil is involved in drama productions, choirs and ensembles, resulting in high standards of achievement from the very youngest in the performing arts' having enjoyed the Year 3 and 4 play, ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
The children also participate in a range of choir performances throughout the school year including our annual Advent Service at The Crooked Spire in Chesterfield.
