Charles, a keen Derbyshire Cricketer and an enthusiastic and gifted actor proved his worth by claiming the top all-rounder exhibition. Meanwhile Max was not to be outdone and was also awarded an all-rounder exhibition on the strength of his sport and drama. The value of extra-curricular activities, drama, music, sport and the school’s unique Life Skills Programme have once again proved worthwhile and contribute to the all-round education on offer here at St Peter & St Paul School. Congratulations to Charles and Max and we hope you keep the flag flying for us for years to come.

Delight at ISI Inspection Report

The Headmaster was delighted with the outcome of our ISI Inspection which took place during the Summer Term. The final report landed on his desk last week and it confirmed the success that the school is enjoying and acknowledged the continuing development of the school. The report highlights the pupils' overall academic achievements and states that the pupils' results at Key Stage 1 & 2 'are far above the national average'. The report also praises the personal development of the pupils and judges it to be excellent. The school governance is also praised and particular plaudits have been given to the work of The Headmaster in successfully moving the school forward since the last inspection in 2005. The school's Early Years Foundation Stage was praised and was said to be outstanding in all areas.
On hearing the news, Andrew Lamb, Headmaster, said, 'I am delighted at the success of the school and it is a tribute to the hard work of all the staff team, pupils and parents. It is great to see the school growing by 4% in the past twelve months when so many independent schools are finding it difficult. The secret is possibly in the amazing value and success of an education here, something all parents should investigate. Small classes and a range of opportunities bring benefits to every pupil.'

The Drama Qube Completed

Construction of our Drama Qube has been completed and we hope to start Drama Lessons in the new studio next term. But the tears of joy turned to tears of sorrow when the local community policeman turned up as it is illegal forpeople under the age of 16 to marry! However so much was learnt on the day and being interviewed by Radio Sheffield and local journalists meant that the day was shared with so many others.

SPSP Airways inaugural flight to Dublin

The inaugural flight of SPSP Airways took off last week on a flight to Dublin. Aboard were Year 1, Mrs Lamb, Miss Doohan and Miss Lilley. They were looked after on the flight by Mrs Sully, SPSP's own 'trolley dolly'. Having checked in, they boarded their flight and were soon arriving in Dublin. They visited the Tourist Information office, Dublin Zoo, Dublin Cathedral and had a picnic on the banks of the River Liffey. A quick stop at the Duty Free Shop was made before boarding the return flight to Chesterfield. They were fortunate with the weather and returned to school at the end of the day having learnt a lot about life in the capital city of the Emerald Isle.

The new area boasts permanent seating, a walkway and a balance beam. There is no doubt that the addition of Forest School to the Reception Class Curriculum has enhanced what we offer and the children clearly benefit from the team building, problem solving and creative activities that are all part of the Forest School experience. In due course we are hoping to develop the programme further to include all pupils in Reception and Years 1 & 2.

Canoeing now during Life Skills

Yesterday saw the first canoeing sessions ever undertaken as part of our unique Life Skills programme. It has long been our intention to expand our Life Skills programme and two groups consisting of pupils in Years 4 and 6 successfully took to the waters of the Chesterfield Canal at Tapton Lock. During the year it is hoped that all groups within the programme will have an opportunity to hone their canoeing skills on the canal. The school's annual Activity Week at High Ash Farm for Years 5 & 6 includes canoeing on Rudyard Lake and the Caldon Canal, so the Life Skills sessions will help children to be more proficient in a canoe.
