The Need to Keep a School Open

The Need to Keep a School Open
Yet again we listened to the local news this morning (05/02/09) and heard the names of over a hundred schools closed in our area while we stayed open.

An appreciative parent commented in an email

I just wanted to drop you a line to say a big thank you to you and your team. As you know both my wife and I work full time and have diaries that are booked up three weeks in advance so when we have potential issues as we have done this week with the weather, it is really reassuring to know that our school is making every effort to try and support us.

I think the determination to keep the school running this week is testament to the great team spirit and dare I say ‘customer service’ that we as parents have become used to and probably take for granted.

Many thanks again to you and your team.

We have a lot of working parents and we believe that we are providing a service for them and an education for their children. We are open again today and we are aware of numbers of parents who are very grateful.

Why isn't there more of the bulldog spirit around? Why do we worry so much about health and safety? We can over-protect children and children learn by experiencing risk. If we don't expose them to risk, how will they learn about danger?
